Forum member “jyl” wrote to me from France with the information that after George Beall’s death, Beall’s widow gave this rod to Jean-Paul Pequegnot. The prior owner of this Para 16 was George Beall (American living in southern France, see PHY rod #4020). Rod was owned by French angler Jean-Paul Pequegnot, whose name is on the tube cap. – H.C.F. Each tip is inked #1961 near the male ferrule, and the butt is inked #1961 near a snake guide. Lettering on two flats can be seen in photos, First flat: “Parabolic 16” DeluxeSecond flat: 8 1/2′ – 4.51 oz. Flamed varnished cane, step-down ferrules (not Super-Zs), cap and ring over cork (Detroit die-stamp on cap). Of this rod, Cimarron Red wrote to me, “In measuring the rod along its length, I determined that the dimensions were in line with later Para 17’s that I have measured.” Purchased in January 1976 from Art Neumann at Wanigas Rod Co., Saginaw, MI. Owned by “Cimarron Red” from Classic Fly Fishing Forum.

This Para 17 was also listed as follows in the Fall & Winter 1979 Len Codella / T&T list: “Paul Young 8’6″ Para 17 2/2, No. Thanks to Fred Kretchmann who showed me this rod at SuperBoo 2016 in Fairfield, Maine. Rod #3881, a Para 17, finished May of 1960 appears to be one of the first rods completed after PHY’s death.
